Best Shopify Apps for Raising Average Order Value

We scored the 166 upsell, bundle and cart apps on the Shopify App Store from our own daily crawl. The median one costs $9.99, 78% are rated 4.85 or higher, and only one of the ten top-scoring apps in Shopify's Discounts category is actually a discount app.

Best Shopify Apps for Raising Average Order Value

Average order value is the one growth lever that does not need more traffic. You already paid to get the visitor; the question is only whether they leave with one item or three. That is why the Shopify App Store has 166 apps competing for the job, and why picking between them is harder than it should be.

We crawl the App Store daily, so rather than describe these apps we scored them. Everything below comes from that crawl: review counts, ratings, published prices, and 52 days of category-rank history. Nobody paid to be here.

Three findings before the list

Half of them cost $10 a month or less. The median entry price across all 166 apps is $9.99. AOV apps are not a budget decision — at these prices, one extra bundle a month covers the bill. Spend your attention on fit instead.

Cheapest paid plan across 166 Shopify AOV apps: 71 at $9.99 or less, 41 between $10 and $19.99, 20 between $20 and $39.99, 7 at $40 or more, 5 free with no paid tier, 22 with no published price
71 of 166 start at $9.99 or below. Only seven ask for $40 or more.

The star rating cannot help you choose. 129 of these 166 apps are rated 4.85 or higher, and 69 of them are effectively a perfect 5.0. A rating that almost everyone has is not a signal. This is a store-wide pattern, not a quirk of this category — we found the same thing when we looked at why 48% of Shopify apps show a perfect 5.0.

Ratings across 166 Shopify AOV apps: 69 rated 4.95 to 5.0, 60 rated 4.85 to 4.94, 18 rated 4.70 to 4.84, 19 rated below 4.70
78% of the category sits at 4.85 or above. Sorting by stars returns almost the whole list.

Nobody owns this category. The five biggest apps hold 22% of the category's 97,761 reviews between them. For comparison, in product review apps a single app holds 49% on its own. A crowded field with no incumbent means the default choice is genuinely open — and it means switching costs you less than you think.

Pick the job, then the app

"AOV app" is four different products wearing one label, and the mistake merchants make is installing two that do the same job. Decide which of these you actually need first.

Job 1 — Raise the total inside the cart

A slide-out cart drawer that shows a progress bar to free shipping, a recommended add-on, and a one-click add. This is the highest-leverage of the four because it fires when intent is already proven.

AppScoreRatingPriceLast 52 days
Essential Upsell & Cross Sell94.65.0 (2,222)Free, then $9.99/mo+436 reviews
AOV.ai Cart Drawer Cart Upsell91.05.0 (781)Free, then $15.99/mo+561 reviews, climbed 9 places
Kaching CartDrawer Cart Upsell89.95.0 (1,163)$9.99/mo up to 99 orders+715 reviews, climbed 8 places

Watch how Kaching prices: $9.99 covers 99 orders a month and the bands climb from there, so it is the cheapest of the three for a small store and not necessarily for yours. Essential leads on weight of evidence — 2,222 merchants at a clean 5.0, and a free tier to test on. AOV.ai is the one to watch: it climbed nine places in the cart chart over the last 52 days, faster than anything else in the category. Full ranked list: best Shopify cart customization apps.

Job 2 — Offer a second product

Post-purchase and product-page upsells, free-gift thresholds, "buy X get Y". Different from the cart drawer: this is about the offer, not the container.

BOGOS: Free Gift Bundle Upsell96.95.0 (4,071)Free, then $29.99/mo+1,028 reviews
Essent FreeShipping Upsell App90.05.0 (862)Free, then $9.99/mo+259 reviews, climbed 4 places
AOV Free Gift BOGO Buy X Get Y86.65.0 (800)Free, then $19.99/mo+184 reviews

BOGOS scores highest of any app in the whole AOV cluster: 4,071 reviews at 5.0, a free tier, and it is still gaining a thousand reviews a quarter at that size. The $29.99 paid tier is the most expensive on this page and the only one where the free plan is worth exhausting first. Full ranked list: best Shopify upsell and cross-sell apps.

Job 3 — Sell more units of the same thing

Bundles, quantity breaks, mix-and-match. The right job when your catalogue is consumable or your margin survives a volume discount.

AppScoreRatingPriceLast 52 days
Kaching Bundles App & Upsells89.95.0 (5,202)$14.99/mo+2,576 reviews, climbed 2 places
FBP | Fast Bundle & Upsell App86.65.0 (3,030)$19/mo+1,084 reviews, climbed 4 places
Rapi Bundles & Upsell app85.55.0 (1,361)Free, then $15/mo+697 reviews

Kaching gained 2,576 reviews in 52 days — the fastest growth of any app in this cluster by a wide margin, and it took the top of the bundles chart doing it. It has no free plan, which is the only reason it does not out-score BOGOS overall. If you want to test before paying, Rapi is the free entry point. The fourth job does not exist

We expected a discounts section here. Shopify has a Discounts category, 69 apps sit in it, and "discount app" is a thing merchants search for. But when we scored it, only one of the ten highest-scoring apps in Shopify's Discounts category is actually a discount app — Discounty (4.9, 1,188 reviews). The other nine are bundle apps, a product-labels app, a subscriptions app and a loyalty app, all wearing the Discounts tag.

This is worth knowing beyond this one category. Shopify's category tags are self-selected by developers and loosely policed, so browsing by category surfaces apps that are merely tagged, not apps that do the job. It is the main reason a scored ranking beats a category listing — and why a swatch app can turn up in a bundles chart. If you genuinely need standalone discount scheduling, start at the ranked discounts list and read past the bundle apps.

How we scored these

Every app gets a 0–100 BestAppify Score built from four measurements, each ranked against the other apps in the same category:

  • Adoption (35%) — review count on a log scale, the only public proxy for how many stores actually run it.
  • Satisfaction (30%) — the star rating, shrunk toward the category average in proportion to how few reviews back it, so a 5.0 from three merchants does not beat a 4.9 from two thousand.
  • Momentum (20%) — reviews gained and category-rank movement over the last 52 days of our daily snapshots.
  • Price (15%) — a free plan tops the component; paid apps are ranked cheapest-first.

What it cannot see is whether the app is any good at the job. Nothing here reads the feature list or installs the app on a real store. Treat the score as a shortlist — it tells you which three of 166 are worth an hour of your evening, and nothing more than that.

Before you install any of them

The trap in this category is overlap. Cart drawers, bundle apps and upsell apps all touch the same part of the storefront, and several of the apps above do two of the three jobs. Two apps injecting into the cart is how you end up with a broken checkout and a slow store — we walk through finding that in the one-hour stack audit.

The other trap is the word "free". Of the 166 apps here, 96 have a genuine free plan, five are free with no paid tier at all, and the rest either charge from day one or do not publish a price. "Free to install" is a fourth thing again, and it can be the most expensive of the lot — we sorted out which is which in Free Shopify apps: which ones are actually free.

Figures in this post come from our crawl of the Shopify App Store in August 2026: 166 distinct live listings across the upsell, bundle, cart-customization and discount category charts, holding 97,761 merchant reviews between them. The ranked lists behind each table update weekly.
